i tried to open the PBP's as a txt file to see what i can see, but theyre so large they crash notepad and open office. what should i be using? id like to get into this stuff, so why not start here.

also, what IS the diference and what caused it to be unhackable. what changes firmware to firmware?

Okay, every firmware has different changes that are added onto the previous firmwares and all of these changes are different between each firmware. Between some firmwares, only one .prx file is changed but between firmwares like 1.52 and 2.0, nearly an entire file system was updated. Between 6.1 and 6.2, I don't know what all was updated.. :( Sorry...
If they have unpackers out there that are compatible with the newer firmwares, you can unpack them, and compare filesize of each file and see what changed.

Well, you don't just find exploits... You find bugs in the system. Say you had an MP3 that you were playing but it always froze up your PSP when it was at 1:27 seconds. You could analyze the file and find out why. If you find out that it's crashing because of an overflow or something of the like, you can try to take advantage of it by making some arbitrary code.

hmmm. maybe someone can investigate some stuff in the closed/open function of the go.

since 6.20 (6.1 might have it too) has the comic downloader and sense me things, those might be vantage points. ill keep an eye out though.
