Need some info about GEN on moddable PSPs

So, I got out of the PSP scene right when CFW Enabler 1.0 got released, so I'm really far behind in what's going on. Apparently, GEN is the firmware to use nowadays. I remember reading that GEN was for unmoddable PSPs, but yet I see people recommending GEN over M33 even if their PSP can be modded fully. So, if you use GEN on a 1000, can you use it like M33 and you know...turn your PSP off? I guess my real question would be if GEN flashed a new firmware on 1000s rather than just load from the MS. Huh, that would've been easier to say...Whatever.

Yes, it is it's own complete custom firmware. I actually just upgraded yesterday so I could play a new game I got.

Download this

copy/paste the 550.PBP to the base of your memory stick and copy/paste the UPDATE folder over to PSP/GAME/
Launch the Updater and you will be set in no time.

I went straight from 5.00 M33-6 to 5.50 GEN-D

How does CXMB work on the GEN firmware?

EDIT: The Readme says it's B-2. You sure that file is GEN-D?
