I love it. I think d3vkit uses it too. Try getting Kubuntu, thats the one I use like all the time. The only time i use Windows now is for making websites and playing WoW. I use ubuntu like every other time. But I downloaded my CD version from some server I believe off Kubuntu's website. Or you could try shipit, takes a long time (~4 weeks) but they send you free CD's with Ubuntu 7.10 on it. But it's free so what can you say.

Ubuntu uses gnome, kubuntu uses KDE, Edubuntu is loaded with educational software for like schools, xubuntu uses (I forgot what it's called) something like xgl or something along those lines, and goubuntu focuses on open source software the user can edit to there needs using some computer language.

I'm guessing you use windows a lot now, so I'd say Kubuntu. It's more similar to windows and it'd be a lot easier for you to settle into. Like in ubuntu you have a bar at the top, and a bar at the bottom, but in Kubuntu you have one bar at the bottom like windows does. Plus I like the way it looks better, and it's easier to customize stuff. Basically it's for people who have grown up with windows I guess you could say. That and the download links worked for me on kubuntu lol.

None of them come with "the cube". It's called compiz-fusion. Older versions are called like compiz and beryl. But the newest one is compiz-fusion. But that can affect Wine and stuff, so I never really dealt with it. I had a problem installing it anyways, but it could be me having Wine installed. But I'm pretty sure all I had to do was upgrade my video card drivers. It's pretty cool though, way better then Vista's crap. Wayyyyy more customizable. And whenever you want to install a program, all you have to do is open up the konsole, and type "sudo apt-get install *insert name of program here*" and it will install it. It's like extremely easy to install popular programs, and best of all, almost ALL of it is free.

Ubuntu 7.10 is no different then 7.04
Many bugs were fixed though

Edubuntu, designed for classrooms using GNOME
Gobuntu, ??
Kubuntu, a desktop distribution using KDE rather than GNOME
Xubuntu, a "lightweight" distribution based on the Xfce desktop environment instead of GNOME

Ah it was xfce!!! To bad I already explained all that to him...
Goubuntu is still in development though. It really isn't that special, just dedicated to open source files.

I'd say Kubuntu, easiest for someone coming from Windows.
