Well, it's fully functional. I filled the 4gb and played each game to make sure there wouldn't be any slowdown. Works perfect.

.Yunoko > There's a moder over at acidmods who was able to connect a hard drive to the psp using the usb port (this is a newer project). He said the transfer speeds are too slow for it to be worth it. I think this is going to be our high capacity option for the psp.

Steeler12 > I don't know of any US retailers selling this. From what I heard some people were buying theirs off ebay. I live in Japan so it's readily accessible. I only paid just over $40 for it as opposed to around $60 that people in the US are paying.

crait > The ribbon cable is pretty short, and doesn't really get in the way. Visually, it looks bad. That's why this whole mod is internal. The UMD drive is gone and the ribbon cable is routed through the inside of the PSP. The only way you would know I had this mod would be to look in the MS slot, or open the UMD door.

In my excitement i TOTALLY forgot to test it on my fat. Now I can't with my slim all back together.

They say it is only compatible with the 2000 model and I haven't read about anyone testing it with the 1000 series.

Wow. Okay, I didn't see the new picture.
That looks really, really good, actually.
Is the card reader mounted inside the PSP so it doesn't wiggle around in the UMD reader's old spot?
If it isn't you get get some double sided tape and fix that up really easily.
And what happens if you used PSPFiler and you accessed the UMD drive? Would your PSP crash or would it just act like there is no UMD inserted?

The only side effect i've found from no umd is when you cold boot the psp, after a couple minutes you get a "disc cannot be read" error. I've never used pspfiler before, but I can test it out for you if you were thinking about this mod.

Right now the board is loose because I didn't have any double sided tape, but I'm going to pick some up on my way home from work tonight. I'm VERY happy with this mod. Super easy to do and gives you so much storage. Just wish my 16gb card would hurry and get here!

I actually was thinking about doing this since you did it.
I could rip all my games into ISO's then sell them to Gamestop and have enough money for this.

Updated with a couple more pics.

PSPFiler can only access the memory stick. Once you hit the UMD drive it freezing trying to load the disc.

I also had a slight issue when changing between kernels. The PSP showed the loading circle for a while 3-5mins without the xmb loading when I rebooted. Don't know if this is related. Don't care though. I don't use homebrew that much, and if I do use it I never go in and change the kernel. Everything works the way I want it to!

did you have to solder anywhere? to the memory stick board? or did you just plug it in from the inside?
