New project - Biquad antenna - need help

Ok, I've been learning what I can about homemade wireless antennas, and so far I've come to find out what I need material-wise. I've been using dial-up for a while now while I learn how to make a wireless antenna so I can receive a free feed of wifi from my friend's router.

By tonight, I will have a satellite dish to use, as well as a wireless G Linksys 2.4ghz router. Those, in combination with a complete biquad antenna should enable me to get about 3-10 kilometers of wireless access points.

I'm wondering if any of you know how to configure one of these once they're fully constructed, or if you guys have anything helpful about the construction/ location of the antenna.

Well, DIY biquad antennas are not official routers or anything. They are signal receivers that are homemade and often increase signal range SIGNIFICANTLY. They're two uses are 1.) to extend your own home network to a larger area for your own use... or 2.) get free wireless internet from an unprotected wireless access point. My goal is the latter - though it's not "illegal" in the sense that I have approval from my bud to use his connection.

I'm wondering if you guys know of the best ways to hook them up to actually work ... as in, make the computer pull in internet. What angle to set it at, where to put it, how to hook up a satellite to it to increase range... stuff like that. I'm still learning but I'm going to be making one in the next week or so. Also, while I'm at it, I may or may not be on brew much until I set this up.

Wow, good luck with that man. I've never heard of a biquad antenna before, much less use it in combination with a satalite dish. Of course my plan of action would be staxx's same approach. Cept I would use camoflauge duct tape to give it some color. All I can say is point it at like what, a 70*-50* angle to your roof or something. And duct tape the antenna to the side of the satalite dish. I would also add a old fan motor from a computer, plug it up to like a 2.5v source or something so it moves slowly in a circular motion while the little biquader thing points in your buds house's direction. But if you did that you would probably have some trouble from the neighbors/police if you did that lol. "Hey he has a spinning antenna on his house! He is so a terriost/ making meth".

lol. I could see DPM trying to convince the police he wasnt a terriost making meth. ;)

So can this work on the router too? or does it just hook up to your computer? i might want to try this

lol Well... I'm reading lots of guides that are easily available via google. My brother has already made one so I'm going to use his expertise as well, but I'm going to be running it via wireless router, and he runs his differently... I'm just not sure how yet.

But yea, I figured I'd pay <$30 for free wireless internet for the rest of my life instead of spending $60 a month and $200 for them to install it lol

Trial and Error. Google. Duct Tape. That should get you were you need to be. I have just also set up something similar to this. (Have my T.V. providers satellite pick up my schools router and now have internet the school knows because they had help me out) so I might be able to ask for help again and give it to you.

The school helped you out to connect to there internet connection? Lucky you. But does that mean you have to face all the filters and stuff like you would normally at school? Like say, you can't access porn?

If you can't find out how to access porn on a restricted network... then you're slippin - catch up with the times lol.

But yea, for those of you that don't really know, this is a biquad antenna. Towards the bottom of that page it links to HERE where you can get a kit for a pretty good price that comes with instructions and all.

But I'd need to have a coax cable larger than 5 feet, so I'd probably extend that cable or just opt to head around the hardware store for my own materials. Also, will a coax cable go into the back of a router (linksys)???

I don't think it will. Might need to buy another linksys modem. I know there modems have coax inputs, but im not sure if any of there rotuers have coax input.

Well... if you unscrew the little wireless antennas on the router... are those ports coax ports? - could someone find out a definite yes or no for me?
