For a while now many users have enjoyed the use of Dark_AleX's custom firmwares (As well as others, that we not as successful), but there are still those few who have refused to conform to the series of updates. There are a few (off the top of my head anyways) people who think that 1.5 is still the superior firmware. So this is it, the final debate, 1.5 vs 3.XX OE-X, which one is the superior?!

I am not here to persuade anyone, I am a 3.03 OE-C user, but I will not sway any member to any side, so without further adue, I present the pros and cons of each firmware:

(Homebrew capabilities are neither a pro nor a con on either side since they both posses the same capabilities)(Almost ;))

1.50
Pros:
*Plenty of empty Flash Space for customizations
*A lot of uneeded icons (Such as the camera and locationfree player) are gone
*Many custom firmware modifications are available

Cons:
*Limited UMD usage
*Does not have the ability to launch .prx files.
*Able to be permanently bricked.
*Flashing is more dangerous and requires an independant application

3.XX OE-X
Pros:
*Allows the launching of backed-up games from the memory stick directly
*Able to launch custom made PRX files
*A Modified POPS Emulator allows for users to create eboots of their backed-up PSX isos.
*Recovery Mode allows PSP to recover from a brick

Cons:
*Additional features take up a great amount of Flash Space
*Installation can be dangerous to those who do not know what they are doing
*NOUMD doesn't function properly with all ISOs.
*Flashing Applications have to be constantly updated to be adapted to each update.

The stage has been set, Heaven or Hell! Lets Rock!

I dont really see anyone complaining about 1.5 not being as popular because we all
know 3.01+ Custom firmwares are pretty much nothing to debate about.

its not that I don't wanna upgrade because it sucks, its just that I feel don't like to take
the risk using all the advance techniques it has.

You guys are way more advance, but I'm still a novice user with the psp and I'm afraid of getting it into a bad state.

This isn't really custom-firmware-specific, but the ability to turn the "auto umd start" or w/e off, so that the games don't load when you power on the psp... man, that is soooooooo nice b/c I got so tired of opening/ closing the tray.

I upgraded away from 1.50 b/c I was tired of using devhook. I was tired of waiting 3 minutes to load something that will take half a minute on custom firmare.

I also wanted psx emulation, so running through devhook would take longer to do that as well and make it seem not worth it. Devhook kinda makes the psp seem more "playstation" and less "playstation portable".

And pspruler, it's cool to stay on 1.50 if you are comfortable with it, but just to let you know... now that you've spent your time on 1.50 and have such an extensive knowledge of devhook and pspersonalize for backgrounds or using seipsptool to get rid of your corrupted data icons (or SCE hiding)... if you upgrade to a custom firmware... that knowledge goes poof b/c all of those things are done so much simpler and faster than you can ever do on 1.50 no matter what and even if you don't understand it at first, and you ruin the psp b/c of it, you can still recover it so there is no loss and you can get much more out of your psp.

custom firmware only seems logical

I'm not advanced. I didn't even know anything about custom firmwares in the last two weeks. Now, I have version 3.03 OE-C thanks to the help tutorials and advice from the brew posse. You have to start sooner or later, you're missing out in our mini van.

I've got so many PSX games on my external hard drive I can just swap my current one on my memory stick when I'm finished. Well that depends on how big and compressed the game is :D
