I looked at that speedtest thing, it shows I should have 9625 KB/sec.. that is unreal. I think that is bogus, I don't know anyone who has that good of a standard download rate.

On the notepad it should say (Save or Save as) Click Save. If it still asks you where to save it I'm not sure.

I would also just like to say that this modification doesn't work everybody. So if it doesn't work maybe try upgrading your internet with your ISP.

Also Mailas you said you where have a load computer. Try taking it apart clean it up and try to make as much room as possible so it has a better air flow. Keep it up off the ground and clean it monthly or every other month. If it is still loud try going out and buying a new in take fan and a new out take fan just make sure your computer has enough power to run them or it will be just as loud.

Advent it could be a Government Agency with a normal name so that could be why, or they are on a Fiberoptic connection.

(Sorry for the double post could a mod please merge it with my reply above?)

page buffer=100000kbps load=100000kbps
Download=100000kbps save=100000kbps
back=100000kbps

Then restart you computer.

It makes your connection 10x as fast! :O

Do you leave a line then put it in or..?

I do it. Click save and then it says, "cannot create the C:\Windows\system.ini file. Make sure path and file name are correct" Then when i clcik save where it wants me to save it, it says it already exists and the process starts all over again. LEt me guess, ur using XP? Im a Vista

Yea maybe Microsoft knows about it and just doesn't want you to. Also you can either leave a line or have it right under it, it doesn't matter.

Like other people have mentioned, it really depends on what you are downloading. Cable can get fast speeds, it just depends on what kind of package you have. It also really depends on what you are downloading as well. Torrents aren't a good judge of what your download speed is because it depends on your internet connection, as well as the connection of seeders. This stands true for files you download off regular web pages.

I have fast internet for one thing, and I also use newsgroups. With newsgroups you are pretty much only limited by your own internet speed since all the files are on servers with high speed connections. That's why I can download at 1-1.3 meg/sec. The speed test thing is pretty accurate... it's actually slightly modest. It usually rates my connection slower than it actually is. The speed that's in my sig is also slightly lower than what it can get up to.

Hardware could be another issue... maybe something is set weird with your router or something. There are a number of factors that affect internet speed.

That thing .Yunoko said to do with the system.ini file worked! I was getting up to 149kb/s when usually I would be getting around 20kb/s on the same file. Thanks Yunoko.

I tried it, but my internet speed didn't improve...

kelly, you should be able to just open it using run, and then going to file>save should do it.
