After the 60 day "trial" you just give them yuor email address and they send you a key for it and it lasts like another 180 days or something. That's what I put on all the computers I have worked on/ built recently.

yea, it awesome, avg messed up my computor. avast FTW! :D

Why would you want AVG to STORE the virus somewhere else when Avast just deletes it all together? AVG is pretty good, but like the previous statements, Avast doesn't take up 1/16 of the resources such as Norton and you can't really notice a difference in performance when you download it. It's split up into processes too, so if you don't need M$ Outlook scanning then just turn it off. Very nice feature.

Also why is a dude without a computer giving AV tips >.>

I was referring to roxfox about that last statement.

Yeah, I have to agree with you guys. Avast! is awesome! Norton just can't fix anything. Sure it may "occasionally" find a virus or a trojan, but it can't fix it. LOL! Avast! scans your files and if it finds it, that's the end of that virus or trojan.

I also use the free version. You don't need to register after 60 days or so, simply download it, register (it will be good for a year) and then re-register another year and so on. Free works better than that expensive "CPU hog" Norton.

Good luck!

Ouch haha I didn't know that, I had Norton for years but it was terrible. I've had McAfee for the past few years.

Use Revouninstaller or something similar. You can never get rid of norton, but you can try as hard as possible ;)
Only computers that are premade by a large company come with preinstalled software, if you bought Vista or a OEM version of the actual OS installation disk then it doesn't come with any extra 3rd party software. I would never use the OS preinstalled on a computer, well much less buy a prebuilt computer now.

Norton must have come bundled with your new machine. I am sure you only have like a three month trial version. To uninstall completely (well almost completely) Norton, use this free tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/ts ... 3108162039 (be sure to click on the version of Norton you have and then scroll all the way down on the 2nd page to download the Removal Tool. You may have to save it on your desktop and run it twice after you reboot the first time.

Good luck.
