c64psp is a Sony PSP port of Christian Bauer's Frodo C64 emulator.
Download, unpack the zip file and copy the two c64psp directories to the /PSP/GAME directory on your PSP. Place t64 and d64 image files in /PSP/C64ROMS. Start the emulator, sit back and bask in blue screen 8 bit goodness.
Press 'L' to bring up the image file selection menu. Pressing up and down on the dpad changes the currently selected image file. Pressing left and right changes the alphabetical filename filter. Once the desired image file is highlighted, press 'L' again to return to the emulator. Tap 'triangle' repeatedly to enter 'LOAD"*",8,1' and continue tapping to enter 'RUN' once the image file has loaded. Press 'select' to reset the emulator, 'square' for space (useful for firing grenades in Commando :) and 'circle' for return.
Press 'R' to bring up the virtual keyboard. Use the dpad to select the desired key and press 'X' to enter that key or 'square' for the shifted version. Moving the analog stick will reposition the virtual keyboard. Press 'R' again to hide the virtual keyboard.
Control defaults to emulation of the Port 2 joystick. Joystick can be swapped to Port 1 by entering the image file selection menu and pressing 'triangle'. Dpad diagonals may not appear to work properly, but this seems to be a common PSP problem, not an urchin problem. Button response seems to improve after a bit of breaking in (of the PSP, not urchin)
Sound is working in most games, but there may be some dropout on very intensive games. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next version.
c64psp has been primarily tested on a firmware V1.5 Japanese PSPs and was developed using SDL for video and audio and the pspdev compiler toolchain and SDK. There are many features missing and probably many unexpected features included. Use at your own risk and check back for updates.
Many thanks to the team c64psp beta testers! If your favourite game does not behave as expected, please test it using the plain desktop version of Frodo (not FrodoPC or FrodoSC) first. If the results are different, you may have found a bug.
Visit our forum thread and say hi. Considerable development and testing effort has been put into c64psp, so if you enjoying using it, why not contribute to our beer, er, development fund?
